Summary of recommended skills
To win a match, you need knowledge of passing and shooting, but even more importantly, you need dribbling skills to get past your opponents. Also, by increasing the variety of your dribbling attacks, you may be able to compete against stronger opponents.
I have compiled a list of some of the most powerful skills that I have actually used myself or been used by my opponents.
Recommended skills for beginners
Shot Fake
![]() ![]() |
This is probably the most intuitive skill. You can suddenly change direction in any direction you like, so if you fake a shot when you're being pressured, you can get the defense off guard.
Ball Roll
![]() ![]() ![]() |
I often use it when I'm creating a pass route. It allows you to shift the ball slightly to the side, so using the ball roll makes a difference in how easily the pass can go through. If you're having trouble passing the ball, try practicing it.
Stop and turn (turn and spin)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This skill is often used inside the penalty area or on the side. It allows you to change direction sideways while facing the opponent's defense, allowing you to outwit your opponent.
Heel to Heel
![]() ![]() ![]() |
This skill allows you to gain speed in the vertical direction. If you use it to aim between the opposing players, you can break through. It's a good skill to use when you want to break out of a tight area.
Feint forward and turn
![]() ![]() ![]() |
Change direction backwards. This is a skill often used on the side, and if you pretend to cut in and use this skill, you can easily get caught. Also, since the space behind you tends to be open, you can directly connect it to plays such as crosses and passes.
roulette
![]() ![]() |
Rotate with your opponent on your back. Often used in the penalty area. Like heel-to-heel, it is possible to gain speed, so if you can get out of the way with this skill, it will create a big opportunity. Therefore, you should definitely master the roulette.
Elastico (reverse elastico)
![]() ![]() |
[Skill 5 only] It's a small movement, but it allows for quick turning, so it's a skill you should remember. It's also my most common scoring pattern. The form of "performing an elastico (reverse elastico) immediately after receiving the ball in the penalty area and shooting" is very strong. I think it's a skill worth practicing.
Heel to ball roll
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This is a new skill added in FIFA23. It allows you to move smoothly sideways with the flow, so it is often used when you want to create a passing route. It is a skill that is unpleasant if used unexpectedly.
McGeady Cancelled
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
[Skill 5 only] It's difficult to activate, so I honestly don't recommend it, but it's a strong skill if you can. It activates when you perform a super cancel immediately after a turn and spin. It allows you to make a sudden turn backwards, sideways, or forwards (although I don't use it much). Also, it's a very annoying skill if your opponent uses it because it has a sharper movement than other skills.
